Seminar Mobile Communications (SE 389.075)

LVA Nr.: 389.075

Advances in Mobile Communication Systems

This years topic of the mobile communications seminar is focused on wireless sensor networks, M2M and their new signalling scenarios in LTE, IMS and Video Coding. The new mobile standards for LTE and LTE-A introduce a wide range of changes in radio and core network of the mobile operatores. In addition to this the 3GPP started to standardize new services for mobile network in order to allow optimal conditions for machine to machine (M2M) and low latency applications, e.g., online gaming.

In the first part of the seminar, university researchers present their latest research in their field of LTE, LTE-A and new applications.

In the second part of the seminar, students will read literature and research papers M2M, Wireless Sensor Networks, Signalling in LTE and reflect their results by their own presentations. Please choose one paper from our suggested paper list and report to Philipp Svoboda till 30.03.2012. Papers will be assigned on a first-come first-serve basis. Note: you can also bring your own topic/paper, the list is only a suggestion.

The round of student talks will start after the easter holidays on Thursdays with 2-3 Students per session. A list of dates will be put online after paper registration.

Title: Trends in the Wireless Industry

Abstract: The cellular phone business has become one of the largest electronics businesses with by far the highest volumes in number of sold devices. This trend will even increase in the coming years making it already now the most desired field of activity for many producers of consumer electronics. We will have a look in what processes and innovations are driving this industry and what we can expect for the future. Moreover we will have a look on new technological features and reflect on the time scales between when they are invented till they are really available in products.
