Georg Maier was born in Klagenfurt, Austria, in March 1980. In 2004 he received his Dipl.-Ing.(FH) degree in hardware software systems engineering from Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences Hagenberg with honors. For his diploma thesis entitled “Prototypen-Entwicklungsumgebung zur schnellen Simulation von DSP-Algorithmen” he collaborated with the Austrian Research Centers GmbH – ARC (now, AIT Austrian Institute of Technologies GmbH).

From 2008-2013, he worked as a research assistant at the institute of telecommunications. During his PhD research in the field of wireless vehicular communications he was member of the Christian Doppler Laboratory for wireless technologies for sustainable technologies.

In 2013, he received his Dr. techn. degree from Vienna University of Technology with honors.
