5G Waveform Contenders
So far, the most investigated technique, CP-OFDM, has offered great improvements, but new applications still strive to gain better properties in terms of data rate, spectral agility, robustness and reliability. In order to achieve this the right waveform technique should be chosen.
We investigate the two most popular 5G waveform techniques: Filter Bank Multicarrier (FBMC) and Generalized Frequency Division Multiplexing (GFDM).
First the focus will be on the implementation of an efficient FBMC system model. In order to remove the intercarrier interference and intersymbol interference as a consequence of doubly-selective channels, an MMSE equalizer will be proposed.
A GFDM system model with different receiver structures will be depicted in the second part of the presentation and it will also be shown how this model is suitable for frequency selective and doubly-selective channels.
Finally, further steps and future plans will be presented.
