“Polynomial Matrix Decompositions and Applications”

Polynomial matrices permit elegant and compact formulations for broadband array problem. Solutions for the latter then depend on extension of optimal narrowband techniques — particularly those involving linear algebraic operations such as eigen (EVD) and singular value decompositions (SVD) — to the broadband case of polynomial matrices.

I will focus on the EVD for such polynomial matrices, report on recent results for its existence and uniqueness, present algorithms for its computation, and highlight some key application examples to subband coding, broadband beamforming and broadband angle-of-arrival estimation.
