Title: Narrow Bandwidth Coding

Abstract: Many new communication services are strongly bandwidth
limited. Yet our ideas of coding stem from systems that have wide
bandwidth and low energy, and most are not effective at the reverse,
narrow bandwidth and high energy. Even at narrow bandwidth Shannon
showed that coding can save 10 dB in energy compared to simple
modulation. The lecture will look into how Shannon theory changes at
narrow bandwidth and show effective recent coding methods that are
specifically designed for narrow bandwidth.
