Vehicular Communication Testbeds
Several vehicular communication testbeds are available at our institute for the characterization of real-world Vehicle-to-Vehicle and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure links from measurements.
Our testbeds:
-
CVIS nodes (3 pieces), operable in the 2,45 GHz and 5,2-6,0 GHz bands with 10 MHz bandwidth, capable of selection combining using one Tx antenna and two Rx antennas.
-
MIMOon testbed (2 pieces), operable in the 2,45 GHz and 5,2-6,0 GHz bands, capable of 2×2 MIMO transmission with 20 MHz bandwidth.
-
National Instruments USRP RIO hardware (3 pieces) for software defined radio (SDR), operable 120 MHz – 6,0 GHz with up to 40 MHz of bandwidth, capable of 2×2 MIMO transmission.
-
Various commercial-off-the-shelf V2X modems from a selection of manufacturers.

Key performance indicators which are assessable by measurements in real-world vehicular scenarios include packet transmission reliability, jitter, data rate, packet latency statistics, as well as coverage areas, the influence of weather conditions, road traffic, robustness to Doppler.
Further, we developed a realtime V2X radio channel emulator for performance evaluation of cooperative intelligent transport applications using communications in the 5,9 GHz band. The emulator enables virtual drive tests in non-stationary vehicular scenarios and runs on a single National Instruments USRP RIO hardware node.
