the Vienna 5G Link Level simulator aims to find the average network or scenario performance by means of Monte Carlo simulation. This means, that a small number of frames is simulated for a specific scenario with different channel and data realizations. If the number of frames is chosen sufficiently high, the averaged results represent the average scenario performance in terms of throughput, BER or FER. Whether the number of simulated frames is sufficiently high, is indicated by confidence intervals within the result plots.
Further, in this Link Level simulator only the RAN is implemented. There is no MAC layer or any sort of network protocol.
In the current implementation, a full buffer assumption is used, that is, data is transmitted in every frame. To investigate latency, a traffic model would need to be implemented.
